Visitors are looking for information, and once they are done on your page, they move on.  Be sure to have a catch, so that they can find their way back to your bit of wisdom.  Add a "Follow Us on Twitter" or a "Check out our RSS Feed" can help reduce bounce rates and create visitor loyalty.

Lessons learned the hard way...

Sure, Designs Edge has done some cool things, we did design work for Elance itself as well as a Star Trek site that was recognized by Paramount.  We too have missed this "Golden Rule" of website development.  Getting a niche site over 200 visitors a day takes a lot of hard work.  As a matter of fact, we are redesigning a current site to recognize this simple truth - the hours that could have been spent during the design phase are now trippled as the site is redeveloped.  A simple planning point for any website, "What message is your website sending?" can save time and money.
